Just like organizations large and small in New York City and across the United States, Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) is taking action to support our neighbors in Haiti by responding immediately to the needs of individuals and families impacted by this disaster. In the wake of the Haiti earthquake, NHS has launched an employee giving campaign and we are asking NHS staff to increase their humanitarian commitment by making financial donations to support the future stability of Haiti. Haiti's needs intensify by the day and therefore we have selected two reputable organizations to provide donations: World Vision and the Mayor's Fund To Advance New York City. Both organizations represent perspective on the importance of local and global partnerships that assist in the development and wellbeing of the community as a whole, and aligns with the foundation of the NHS vision and mission. Most importantly, these donations will be given to the selected charities in memory of relatives of two our NHS family members. NHS is also assisting with local community Haiti relief efforts in the neighborhoods we serve. As an organization, we believe in the "one-ness" of New York City communities, strong partnership with other community organizations and resident-led leadership. Collaboration has always been one of the cornerstones of our mission and during this historic time of need. Two such examples in the power of partnerships are: NHS of the South Bronx's donation of clothing to local churches and NHS of East Flatbush's help in conducting a food and clothing drive with Erasmus Federation in Brooklyn, NY. These resources are now making it into the hands of survivors and enabling them to receive supplies that will help to meet their basic needs. Generous contributions and support are critical to relief efforts in Haiti. We are encouraging our staff, board members, and customers to follow suit and donate! Together we can and will provide help and hope for the people of Haiti now and in the future. Â
