Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City, Inc. (NHS), a trusted not-for-profit organization, through financial empowerment and affordable lending enables individuals and families to invest in, preserve and improve their Neighborhoods, their Homes and their Future.

NHS is a community-based organization providing services throughout New York City, with targeted impact in the following Neighborhoods:  Bedford-Stuyvesant, East Flatbush, North Bronx, Northern Queens, and the South Bronx.  In our ongoing effort to build strong communities, we are led by local residents and guided by local needs.  NHS is a chartered member of NeighborWorks® America, a national not-for-profit network of 235 organizations across the country.

NHS Focuses On

  • Financial Capabilities including:  Financial Fitness, Financial Coaching, Education and Counseling, First Time Homebuyer and Homeownership Education and Counseling, Foreclosure Prevention, Loss Mitigation and Short Sale Facilitation.
  • Neighborhood Stabilization and Homeownership Preservation through education, lending and housing development including:  the development and sale of affordable housing, home maintenance training, NYSERDA Loans and Energy & Green Initiatives, emergency repair and home renovation loans.
  • Resident Leadership and Community Building through awareness campaigns, community organizing, and leadership development programs.

2010 NHS Accomplishments

  • Honored in March 2010 by NeighborWorks® America with the 2009 Top Producer Award for being #1 in the Network for Direct Investment.
  • Deployed $1 million in Neighborhood Stabilization Program Funds for mixed use affordable housing.
  • NHS pre and post homeownership programs assisted over 9000 families and leveraged over $118 million in mortgages and loans.
  • Assisted 2873 New Yorks with foreclosure prevention education and individual counseling.
  • Helped senior citizens 61 and over in understanding and obtaining reverse mortgages totaling $28.6 million.
  • As Administrator for New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development's Home First Down Payment Cost Program closed over 300 loans.
  • Launched E-Home web-based homebuyer education.
  • As a CDFI and NYSERDA lender we manage a protfolio of $24 million in assets.
  • Loan Scam Alert Awareness Campaign in Time Square as the National NeighborWorks Week Kickoff.
